CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A CMPD officer was injured in a crash after a driver ran a red light and collided with the officer’s vehicle in north Charlotte Sunday morning.
Police say the wreck happened at about 6:56 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of W.T. Harris Boulevard and Medical Plaza Drive.
According to the CMPD, Officer Tangelia Bynoe had a green light at the intersection as she responded to a call for service, when 2016 Nissan Frontier being driven by Casey Spencer ran a steady red light and entered the intersection.
Officer Bynoe’s vehicle struck the Nissan Frontier on the driver’s side and rear driver’s side door.
Charlotte Fire and MEDIC responded to the scene to render aid. Officer Bynoe was taken to Atrium Health University with non-life threatening injuries. Casey Spencer was not injured in the crash and was not taken to the hospital.
Detectives do not believe speed nor impairment were a factor in the accident for either driver.
This crash remains under investigation. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD’s Public Affairs Office. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or Detective Nathan Crum with the Major Crash Investigation Unit at 704-432-2169.
