SHELBY, NC — A teacher assistant is accused of assaulting a handicap student at a school in Shelby. She’s now out of a job, and talking to WCCB Charlotte about what she says really happened.
Shelby police arrested Aleksandra Hoyle Wednesday, and charged her with misdemeanor assault. She’s accused of spanking a boy with a wooden spoon. Police say the incident happened at North Shelby School. That school is for special needs students between the ages of 3 and 21.
Hoyle did not want us to show her face, but tells WCCB she never hit the child, even though he was hitting and biting other teachers and students. “My main idea was to get the kids to the classroom and keep them safe,” said Hoyle. “Yeah I got frustrated. I grabbed the spoon and I threatened him, but I did not touch him, and I’m going to fight over this.”
Hoyle says she should not have threatened the boy, and resigned on her own. She will be in court on Friday, she says, to defend her name.
