CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care and Control is notifying residents after a raccoon tested positive for rabies off Carmel Park Drive in south Charlotte.
CMPD AC&C says two dogs were exposed to the raccoon. Both dogs were current on their rabies vaccines and were taken for rabies vaccination boosters within the 96-hour time frame, according to a news release.
This is the first animal to test positive for rabies in Mecklenburg County in 2020. There were a total of 16 rabies cases in 2019 and 14 in 2018.
