LINCOLNTON, NC – Investigators say 33-year-old Travis Fitzpatrick is the man responsible for a deadly hit and run in Lincoln County. Police arrested Fitzpatrick Saturday.

He’s accused of striking 53-year-old Sherry Kittle while she was walking along Highway 321 Wednesday.

“It gives us a little bit of comfort,” says Kittle’s son Jeremiah. He says the arrest brings relief for his family, but still questions.
“I just wanna know why he would leave my mom on the side of the road like that,” Kittle says.

Troopers say an anonymous tip led them to Fitzpatrick’s home in Sherrills Ford. They found the damaged car there, but not Fitzgerald. He later turned himself in.

Jeremiah says seeing that car was difficult.
“You know by the damage to the car, that my momma was probably in pain,” he says.

Kittle says his mom had been walking to a convenience store because her car broke down three months ago. Neighbors say she had started walking at night because it was getting hot during the day.

Fitzpatrick is now out on $25,000 bond. He’s charged with felony hit and run.
