
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating a deadly accident in north Charlotte. The accident happened in the 8000 block of Old Statesville Road around 2:40 p.m. on Tuesday. Police say the driver, 21-year-old Thabiti Ashim Pierre-Louis was driving recklessly and speeding while trying to pass a vehicle in front of his. Authorities say Pierre-Louis was under the influence of alcohol.
While attempting to pass, Pierre-Louis lost control of the car, went off the side of the road, clipped a telephone pole and then flipped over. Police say a 4-month-old baby was not restrained in a car seat and was ejected from the car. The infant died at the scene.
Medic confirms that five passengers in the car were transported to Carolinas Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.
Thabiti Ashim Pierre-Louis was charged at the hospital with DWI, child seat violation, and overcrowding a vehicle. When he is released from the hospital, he will be served with warrants for felony death by motor vehicle, reckless driving, possession of marijuana, and child neglect.
