Pool Where Child Died Held Previous Citations

CHARLOTTE, NC — A murky pool in east Charlotte where a child died had been cited before over its water quality.  Kids swimming at the Woodbridge apartments discovered the body Saturday.  Dive teams pulled the child out, and eventually drained the pool.  An inspection last year noted cloudy water and an open gate at the pool.  The Health Department says the pool may have been closed when the drowning occurred.

“You always wanna be able to see clearly what’s in the water,” says Tim Dutcher of the Mecklenburg County Health Department.  “If somebody was struggling, obviously they couldn’t see what was happening.  If there had been an adult there, they would have hopefully seen something much sooner.”

The Woodbridge pool opened over the weekend.  The Health Department says it had 60 days to have a safety inspection.
