CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A manhunt for a suspect possibly armed with an assault rifle closed a north Charlotte road for several hours.
Witnesses say a man was seen shooting an AR-15 out of the sunroof of an older model Ford Mustang just before 11am.
Moments later, police were called to a crash near a Bojangles involving a vehicle that matched the above description.
Witnesses told police they saw the man run into a wooded area off Statesville Road. Investigators searched the woods with K-9 units and by helicopter but a suspect was never located.
During the search, Statesville Road and the ramp to I-85 from Statesville Road was shut down. The roads have since reopened.
Police are still on the scene but no arrests have been made at this time. No injuries were reported in the alleged shooting.
