Fights Among Teens Began on Social Media Ended in Violence

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Violent events in Alabama and Wisconsin over the weekend involved teens, social media and weapons.

The deadly disputes pitting teens against each other are being called a national issue.

Police in Alabama say that for several weeks, a group of teens fought on Facebook, but on Friday night in a Birmingham park, investigators sayΒ  that their online argument became physical.Β  During the fight two boys pulled out guns and started shooting.Β  The shots injured two girls and killed a 14 year old girl.  Birmingham police arrested two teenage boys.

Also on Friday, in Wausau, Wisconsin police say that 10 students got into a fight on social media.Β  According to police one group then drove to a house, got out of the car and started shoot a B-B gun at another group on a porch.Β  The fight escalated leaving one 13 year old boy dead after being stabbed twice in the back.

Police in both cities say the fatal fights started on Facebook.
