CHARLOTTE, NC — People for and against Charlotte’s proposed LGBT non-discrimination ordinance have been debating since it was first proposed in November. Β Both sides have consistently said there is no room for compromise.
City Council member David Howard is proposing a new idea that would create gender-free, single-stall bathrooms in all new commercial buildings. Β Existing buildings would have at least one “safe haven” bathroom for those who associate with a different gender.
WCCB Charlotte reached out to several local developers on that idea. Β Only Grubb Properties got back to us, saying they didn’t want to make a formal statement at this time.
