Elderly Woman Assaulted and Carjacked

CHARLOTTE, NC — An elderly woman, assaulted and carjacked in a Charlotte grocery store parking lot. Β Police arrested the suspect Tuesday eveing.
The attack happened around 11:30 Tuesday morning outside the Cotswold Harris Teeter. Β The woman says Scottie Barringer pushed her to the ground, then took her money and car keys from her purse. Β A man saw what was happening, tried to help, and got run over. Β Shoppers are surprised by the thief’s boldness.
“I think we definitely need to be aware of our surroundings and be alert,” said Cotswold resident Mylene Castro Cross. Β “It wouldn’t stop me from helping somebody else.”
Both victims have serious injuries. Β Barringer is facing several felony charges.
