Cops and Barbers Give Away Bookbags

CHARLOTTE, NC — CMPD and a local barber shop are teaming up to help kids in north Charlotte get ready to go back to school.

Shaun Corbett and Da Lucky Spot barbershop have been sponsoring a back bag giveaway for four years.  This year Corbett, who is part of the Cops and Barbers initiative, recruited CMPD’s North Tryon Division as a partner for the event.

“These are the relationships that really are needed to take our communities back,” said Corbett.  “To get our communities flowing and going the way that we need them to go.”

“It’s the exact opportunity that we need, I think, to reach at lot of our youth,” said CMPD Captain Rob Dance.  “We’re very grateful for the invitation, and we look forward to helping them out on this one.”

The book bag giveaway is Saturday from noon until four at the Sugar Creek Recreation Center.  There will also be a basketball tournament and food.
