CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are reaching out to build better communication with the African American community. Β CMPD announced a second installment of the Cops and Barbers program Thursday, a program we highlighted Wednesday night on WCCB News @ Ten.

CMPD is also putting officers and young people together for an extended dinner conversation, where both sides can learn about each other.

“It was cool,” said Crossroads Charter High student Khaliah Corbett. Β “We talk about sports, basketball, football, what you’re doing, what college are you going to, like regular people. Β They’re not trying to lock everybody up. Β If you keep your head on straight, you’ll be okay.”

The second round of the Cops and Barbers program starts at 3:00 Sunday afternoon, at the Naomi Drenan Recreation Center in Grier Heights.
