SEATTLE, WA —Β The city of Seattle is raising its minimum wage to $15 an hour. Β The plan goes into effect next April. Β It will phase in over three to seven years depending on the size of the business. Β Washington already has the highest state minimum wage at $9.32 an hour.
Fast food workers in Charlotte and across the country have held strikes, pushing for a $15 minimum wage. Β A congressional report estimates a national minimum wage increase could pull 900,000 people out of poverty, but end up putting half a million people out of work.
