CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Crude oil is now $81 a barrel.  And although that appears to be bad for the stock market, gasoline prices are down significantly.  WCCB spotted gas for under $3 a gallon at several stores in the University area and at he Murphy Express gas station on HWY 73 in Denver.

Gas prices have slowly been dropping across the nation.  The average price nationwide dropped nine cents in the last week.  AAA expects that to drop another 10 to 20 cents by the end of the month.

“I need to fill up, cause it hasn’t been that cheap in a long time,” said east Charlotte resident Danny Leopfard.  “It’s way past due, actually.  It’s costing too much to get around town.”

The national average is $3.15 a gallon.  The average in North Carolina is $3.13.  A gallon of gas in South Carolina will cost you about $2.95.
