Remembering Kilah Davenport

The family of Kilah Davenport, a little girl who was severely beaten by her stepfather, confirmed Thursday night that she has died.

“Please continue to pray for our family,” said Kilah’s grandmother, Leslie Davenport.  “This is the second hardest thing that we’ve ever been through.  The first was when Kilah got hurt, and now we’ve lost her.  But we know she’s dancing in heaven again, she’s singing, and she’s playing, and she’s happy, and she’s not in pain anymore.”

The case led to a new state law named for Kilah.  It gives convicted child abusers 25 years to life in prison.  A national version of Kilah’s law sponsored by Congressman Robert Pittenger is making its way through the US Senate.  Pittenger released a statement Thursday saying, “Let us all commit to ending the scourge of child abuse”.
