Charlotte Daycare Workers Facing Charges After 2013 Infant Death

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A year long investigation into a death at a local daycare has landed two women behind bars. Β

Police say Stephanie Johnson and Shanita Wright have been charged after an infant died from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome at Chesterbrook Academy in northeast Charlotte. Β

Homicide detectives collected physical evidence and viewed surveillance video as part of the death investigation. Β

The evidence proved both suspects handled infants in a rough manner, slept and failed to supervise the infants, were inattentive when the children were in their care and failed to routinely check on the welfare of the children, according to detectives. Β

Johnson has been charged with four counts of contributing to the delinquency and neglect of a juvenile. Β Wright has been charged with three counts of contributing to the delinquency and neglect of a juvenile. Β

The Medical Examiner concluded that the suspects behavior did not play a role in the infant’s death.

The baby who died at the daycare was identified as Logan Bryant. Β He was only 4-months-old when he died. Β
