The Latest (8/25/20):
The five firefighters that were injured in a massive Chester County fire Monday have now all been released from the hospital and are in good condition, according to Chester County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Suskin.
The fire was announced to have been contained around 5 p.m. on Monday. In addition, due to the overnight rain the fire is now smoldering.
EPA and DHEC are still on scene. The environmental contractor that is responding to DHEC did water and air quality tests Monday night. As a result, there were no no hazards found in the air that could cause greater evacuations and no contaminant in the water, officials say. The air and water are still being monitored until they are sure everything is safe.
According to officials, they are in the process of de-mobilizing, but a small presence will remain on scene to manage the fire until it is fully out.
SLED and the Fire Marshall are working to conduct an investigation at this time.
“There was a great effort by men and women in Chester County and from across the state, and we are thankful for their hard work and bravery,” Suskin said.
