STATESVILLE, N.C. — Two people were killed in a Statesville crash involving a tractor-trailer Thursday evening.
Police responded around 5 p.m. to the accident that happened on Garner Bagnal Boulevard and Buffalo Shoals Road.
After an investigation, officers say 62-year-old Michael Henry Watkins was traveling north in a Jeep on Garner Bagnal Boulevard and attempted to turn left onto Buffalo Shoals Road when he struck the tractor-trailer. The tractor-trailer, which was driven by 37-year-old Latoyia Spears, was heading south on Garner Bagnal Boulevard when it was struck.
The two people who were in the Jeep at the time of the accident, Watkins and a passenger, died at the scene, police say. The passenger has not been identified.
Spears was transported to a local hospital for injuries sustained from the accident.
