GASTONIA, N.C. — A North Carolina State Highway Patrol officer was arrested for larceny Saturday afternoon after he was accused of stealing over $5,000 worth of gym equipment from a Gastonia YMCA.
The Gastonia-based trooper, identified as 44-year-old Jerome John Letcavage, was arrested around 4:20 p.m. Gastonia Police say he is accused of stealing weights and resistance bands valued at over $5,000 from the Warlick Family YMCA.
The larceny is stated to have taken place on September 2 with the arrest taking place three days later. He was released on a written promise.
Latcavage was charged with felony larceny in this case, according to police.
Highway Patrol PIO Pierce confirmed that Letcavage was a 22-year highway patrol vet that worked with Troop H in District 1. He is on administrative leave pending an internal affairs investigation.
