CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — According to the NC State Highway Patrol, a 21-year-old man has died after a single-car accident in Catawba County Friday morning.
Troopers responded around 7:50 a.m. to Old Shelby Road, nearby Greedy Highway, to investigate a fatal crash.
After an investigation, officials determined that a 2005 Ford car was traveling north on Old Shelby Road, ran off the road to the right in a curve, lost control, and then collided with a tree on the roadside. The driver, identified as Nathaniel Jay Jose Reynon, died to his life-threatening injuries at the scene.
There were no other passengers in the vehicle.
Excessive speed is considered to be a contributing circumstance, troopers say. The roadway was closed for around 3 hours during the investigation.
