Two Boys Shot While Playing With Family Pet, Charlotte Man Arrested For Crime

CHARLOTTE — A 20-year-old man is behind bars charged with shooting two boys as they played with their family pet.

Jatarius Jones faces numerous charges.  Police say he was involved in a violent crime spree that began on Amity Point Road, and ended with shots fired into a car on West Sugar Creek.  No one got hurt there.

Monday evening, officers rushed to Amity Point Road, and found two boys, 11 and 5 years-old, who had been shot.  Medic rushed the 11-year-old to the hospital with serious injuries.  A bullet grazed the 5-year-old.  Police say the boys were playing with their pet rabbit when they were shot.

“It’s not safe right now.  Right now, it’s not safe at all for our kids,” says Neighbor Iesha Toure.

Jones is behind bars charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a stolen firearm, as well as felony conspiracy.  Jail records show he’s been arrested nine times in Mecklenburg County since January 2018.  Previous charges include, attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and stolen vehicles.
