
GASTONIA, N.C.– The Gastonia Fire Department responded to an apartment fire early Sunday morning.
Firefighters were called to the 800 block of Barkley Street around 6:30 a.m. Sunday in response to a reported apartment fire.
When they arrived, firefighters found smoke showing from the second floor of an apartment building.
After entering the building, officials say they found heavy fire on the second floor. They put out the flames in about ten minutes and kept the fire contained to one unit.
The fire caused an estimated $25,000 in damages and no injuries were reported.
The Gastonia Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office ruled that the fire was intentionally set. Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call Gaston County Crime Stoppers at 704-861-8000.
