Charlotte Woman Arrested After Deputies Say They Found Four Pounds Of Marijuana During Traffic Stop In Rowan County

CHINA GROVE, N.C. — Deputies say they arrested a Charlotte woman after they found four pounds of marijuana inside her vehicle following a traffic stop.  Deputies with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office stopped a rental car traveling on I-85 in China Grove on Tuesday, September 29th for a traffic violation, according to a news release.

The driver of the vehicle, 38-year-old Nakeil Covington, of Charlotte, consented to letting deputies search the vehicle, according to a news release.  Covington was arrested after deputies say they found two THC tubes and four individually wrapped packages of marijuana, totaling four pounds.  Deputies say the evidence showed that the items originated from California.  The value of the contraband is approximately $15,000, according to a news release.

Covington was charged with three felonies: possess with intent to sell/delivery marijuana, maintain a vehicle and possession of marijuana.  Her bond was set at $5,000.  Deputies say Covington has convictions for possession of stolen goods, possession of drug paraphernalia, felony possession of cocaine, and felony possession with intent to dell/deliver cocaine, according to a news release.
