CHARLOTTE, N.C. — It’s been a hurricane season for the ages, but the tropics appear to be slumbering for now. After ripping off 23 named storms before October, smashing the previous record of 17 in 2005, it’s now been nearly two weeks since the National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami diagnosed a tropical storm last. It’s been nice while it’s lasted, but that streak will likely be coming to an end soon. Currently, the NHC is tracking two tropical waves in the Caribbean that could become tropical storms as soon as this weekend. While it’s way too early to even begin discussing the tracks and impacts of the two respective disturbances, warm both should be moving into more favorable territory for development over the next few days.

The WCCB Weather Team will continue to track these systems over the next few days. Download our COIT WeatherWise App for the latest on the tropics and what’s in the forecast for your neighborhood in the days ahead.
