CMPD: Detectives Investigate A CATS Bus Fatal Collision

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Detectives say the driver of a 2004 Toyota Camry, 28-year-old Aishwarya Mudaliar, died after hitting a C.A.T.S bus on October 1st around 8:40 p.m.

One of three of the passengers on the bus was taken to a local hospital with injuries and the other two were not hurt, according to a news release.

Mudaliar was heading south on Millterton Avenue, and did not stop at a stop sign at the intersection of West Morehead Street and Millerton Avenue, when she hit the bus passing through the same intersection, according to a news release.

Investigators say the C.A.T.S. bus was heading west on West Morehead Street when it hit the front bumper of the Camry, and Mudaliar was ejected and her car hit a utility pole.

Medics took Mudaliar to a local hospital where she later died, according to a news release.

Deputies say Mudaliar was speeding, failed to stop at a stop sign, and was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The C.A.T.S. bus was not speeding or under the influence, according to a news release.

Police say the investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with more information on the crash should call Detective Crum at 704-432-2169 (extension 4) or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
