ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. — Alexander County deputies say a 29-year-old Maiden man was charged after a victim was stabbed in the neck Sunday night.
Officers responded to a Stony Point School Road residence in Alexander County around 11 p.m. When officers arrived on the scene they located a victim who was bleeding from an injury in his neck area. The unidentified victim was transported to Iredell Memorial Hospital by EMS.
The victim told officers that the altercation occurred following a verbal disagreement.
Officers were informed by the victim and a witness that the suspect had left the residence on foot. North Carolina State Highway Patrol was contacted to attempt to help locate the suspect. The suspect, identified as Vaughn Paul Mitchell III, was found walking down Stony Point School Road and detained him by troopers.
After an initial investigation, Mitchell was found to also be in possession of a knife, narcotics and drug paraphernalia including marijuana and methamphetamine.
Deputies say Mitchell was arrested and charged with Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Inflict Serious Injury, Felony Possession with Intent to Manufacture/Sell/Deliver Methamphetamine, Misdemeanor Simple Possession Schedule IV Controlled Substance (Marijuana), Misdemeanor Drug Paraphernalia and Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia.
Mitchell was also charged for his outstanding warrants which included Fail to Appear out of Catawba County-Misdemeanor Failure to Return Rental Property, Fail to Appear out of Alexander County-Felony Possession Schedule II Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine), and Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Fail to Appear out of Iredell County- Felony Possession of Cocaine, and Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, according to a news release.
