Thousands Expected To Attend Trump Rally In Gastonia Wednesday
GASTONIA — The City of Gastonia is gearing up for a visit from President Trump.
Thousands of people are expected to pack into the Gastonia Municipal Airport for a Trump ‘Make America Great Again Rally despite concerns from health officials.
Airport officials say they expect at least 15000 people to show up. We asked them how they plan to physically distance that type of crowd.
“Well, that’s a great question. I don’t plan on being out there,” says Jon Boyd, GM, Gastonia Municipal Airport.
“There are hand wash stations, there’s a request that everybody wears masks, a request to maintain social distancing obviously, we can only do what we can do,” says Boyd.
Dozens of doctors from across the state sent a letter to Trump’s campaign last week requesting he cancel all rallies including one in Greenville, to preserve and protect public health. That rally in Greenville happened anyway.
Few people were wearing masks and hardly anyone physically distanced.
