Matthews Swears In New Board Of Commissioners Member Following Arrest

MATTHEW, N.C. — The Town of Matthews swore in George Fossett to the Board of Commissioners Monday night following the resignation of Mayor Pro-Tem Joe Pata.

Pata resigned from office on July 27th after being charged with domestic abuse. He was arrested after officers were called to his home on Reverdy Oaks Drive on July 24th. According to police reports, alcohol was involved in the incident. Officers say the woman, who lived with him, had injuries that appeared to be from a physical assault.

George Fossett will remain in the seat until November when the new board is elected. Fossett is an Army veteran and the current president of The Construction Institute, an educational institution for construction professionals. He and his wife have lived in Matthews for 28 years.
