The investigation continues into the shooting of two police officers in Ferguson, Missouri. It’s the latest incident following last year’s shooting death of Michael Brown. Now, police are looking for any suspects.
Violence returned to the streets of Ferguson overnight as two police officers were shot early Thursday morning. They were standing guard during demonstrations following the announcement that Police Chief Thomas Jackson was steeping down.
One officer was shot in the face, while another was struck in his shoulder. Both have been released form the hospital and are recovering.
Since August, the “Ferguson effect” has been felt across the country. And here in Charlotte. And if you don’t believe that, ask police, ask the chief, ask the community. CMPD’s new effort called “Cops and Barbers” is all about “real conversation” and preventing what happened in Ferguson from happening here. Because once it does, there’s no closing the door on that. There’s no easy fix. There’s no magic wand. Even, apparently, resignations from top leaders in Ferguson isn’t doing much to calm people’s fears.
And that brings us the Question of the Night: should the Ferguson Police Department stay, or go?
