Rapper, Activist ‘Common’ Pushing Get Out The Vote Message In Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — Rapper Common is using his music to push people across Charlotte to get out to the polls on Election Day.  Common held a free, physically distanced concert at the Park Expo and Conference Center in East Charlotte Sunday.

He told the crowd this election is everything, and encouraged people to get out and vote on Election Day, and vote in record numbers.

“I just care about people, so I’m like man I gotta give my all. This is a moment in history, and in life where there’s no looking back, no looking to the side, I’m like eyes on the prize,” says Common.

Some local leaders, including Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles were on hand for the concert.  The mayor surprised Common with a key to the city.

“What it means is he’s an example for our citizens, and residents the way he participates in the process and encourages people,” says Mayor Lyles.

Common joined Charlotte rapper, DaBaby Saturday, for a ‘Party at the Polls’ event in East Charlotte on the last day of early voting.
