Β CRAMERTON, NC — Counselors will be on standby to assist grieving students at Cramerton Middle School Monday. Β
A fellow student, 14-year-old Steven Canipe, died on his way to the Gaston County school Friday morning. Β Witnesses say he darted in front of a car on South New Hope Road. Β That’s about half a mile from the school. Β Neighbors tell WCCB they aren’t surprised an accident happened on the busy road.
“It’s hard even if you’re trying to pull out from this store. Β It’s hard in the afternoons cause there’s so many people moving in and out. Β It’s hard even to get out. Β So I can see it being hard to cross the road if he was walking,” said Cramerton resident Jordan Lutz.
Troopers are still investigating, but don’t think the driver will be charged.
