CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Dozens of dogs rescued from a suspected puppy mill in Rutherford County are being treated in Charlotte.
The Human Society helped rescue 56 dogs from three properties in Mooresboro.
The animals were English Bulldogs, Yorkies, Cocker Spaniels, French Bulldogs, and Shih Tzus. They have eye problems, ear infections, and skin infections, some are extremely matted.
The Humane Society of Charlotte associate, Jorge Ortega says “Just the coats on these dogs and how matted they are. I mean we got one that the matt on this dog is as big as a football, you can actually palm it, it’s so thick and heavy.”
The breeder has not been charged. The Humane Society of the United States says North Carolina does not have any laws that protect dogs sold by breeders.
They’re hoping lawmakers will change that.
