STATESVILLE, N.C. — North Carolina troopers are investigating an Iredell County fatal collision that left two people dead and one person in the hospital with serious injuries, according to a news release.
Troopers say they responded to the car accident around 5:45 a.m. on November 12th on Wilkesboro Highway near Pisgah Church Road, where the driver and passenger of a 1997 Ford Ranger died at the scene.
Investigators say driver of the Ford, 23-year-old Dylan Poole, and passenger, 23-year-old Jamie Batcher, died after succumbing to injuries sustained in the crash.
Troopers say the Ford was heading south on NC Highway 115 and hit a 2018 Jeep Wrangler heading north, after hydroplaning and crossing the centerline.
Driver of the Jeep, 33-year-old Ryan Bourgeois, was taken to Iredell Memorial Hospital with serious injuries, and later transported to Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem to be treated.
Detectives say neither Poole or Batcher were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident, and Poole was driving at an unsafe speed for the wet roadway conditions.
Troopers say the roadways were closed for four hours during their investigation.
