CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) β Miami has lost running back Gus Edwards for the entire season because of a left foot injury.
The school made the announcement Sunday night, when releasing its first depth chart of the season. Edwards was injured in a scrimmage Aug. 22 and was in a walking boot last week, though Hurricanes coach Al Golden initially said he did not expect that the 6-foot-2, 235-pound junior would be sidelined for long.
Edwards was reevaluated after several days of treatment, and further tests showed that the problem was far worse than first anticipated.
Edwards was a strong candidate to be the starter this season, and his absence means a larger workload will be placed on sophomore Joe Yearby and true freshman Mark Walton.
