N.C. Troopers Investigate A 3-Vehicle Collision In Iredell County

STATESVILLE, N.C. — Troopers say they responded to a three-vehicle collision on Interstate-40 West where four individuals received injuries and one man was charged for failing to maintain lane control on December 30th around 11 a.m.

Police say the driver of a 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck, 26-year-old Derek Frye of Wichita, Kansas, was heading west when he ran off the road to the left colliding with the median guardrail and a 2018 Subaru Forester.

The driver of a 2010 Freightliner moving truck swerved attempting to avoid the initial collision, when he collided with the guardrail and his truck overturned in the travel lanes spilling the contents of his moving truck across the roadway, according to a news release.

Detectives say Frye was taken by Iredell County EMS to Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville with minor injuries and was charged for failing to maintain lane control.

Driver of the Subaru, 62-year-old Robert Grant of Statesville, was taken to Iredell Memorial Hospital with serious injuries, and his 63-year-old passenger was taken to the hospital for minor injuries, according to a news release.

Detectives say the moving truck driver, 37-year-old Steven Knight of Lynchburg, Virginia, also received minor injuries in the crash.

Police say Interstate-40 West was closed for two hours until the left lane could be re-opened, and the right lane will continue to be closed as cleanup efforts remain ongoing.
