Friday Snow Chances

It’s a chilly start this morning with temps in the 30s across the region. Roads may be slippery from yesterday’s snow across the mountains, otherwise, we’re looking at a quiet start to the day. Clouds increase today with highs reaching the low 50s. Temps will remain cool through Thursday ahead of our next big weather maker.

A straight snow event will be likely for the mountains with up to 6″ possible. Things get a little bit more dicey south ofΒ the I-40 corridor. We’ll likely get a rain/snow/ice mix with 1-2″ of snowfall possible closer to I-40 and across northern Piedmont. Trends are bringing more of a rain event near and south of I-85, however, we could see some wet flakes mixed in – especiallyΒ late Friday afternoon. The change-over line will be very close within the I-40 to I-85 corridor so this forecast isn’t set in stone. Regardless, roads will likely be slippery Friday into Saturday morning especially as temps fall below freezing overnight. Even areas that get just rain could be dealing with slippery spots.
Weekend and Beyond
It will be a dry and chilly weekend with highs only reaching the upper 40s. Another round of wet weather returns early next week.
