Windy and Cold Thursday
Showers are clearing the area. The cold air didn’t reach in time to see much of changeover across the Piedmont, but the mountains did get some snow last night.
Snowfall Totals:
Newland (Ashe Co) 3″
Glendale (Ashe) 3″
Blowing Rock (Watauga) 2″
Boone (Watuaga) 1.3″
It is going to be blustery today. Winter Storm Warning continues until noon for the mountains as of now. Winds will gust 50+ mph for the mountains, making blowing snow a concern. Power outages could also be an issue and is something that shouldΒ be watched through the morning. The Piedmont and Foothills will also be dealing with wind. Gusts 30-40 mph are not out of the question with winds out of the NW 10-20 throughout the day. Although highs will reach the mid 40s, it will feel like the 20s/30s all day long. Clouds will clear and sunshine will return by the afternoon. Freezing tonight as temps dip into the 20s tonight (wind chills will be in the teens for Charlotte)
Sunny and dry, but chilly through Saturday. Highs will be well below average, only reaching the mid to upper 40s, as overnight lows fall into the 20s. Sunday will bring the return of rain and snow to the region. We could get a rain/snow mix down into the I-40/I-85 corridor. But, accumulating snow still looks unlikely for Charlotte with this storm. However, heavy snow is looking possible for the mountains and will need to be monitored. Temps will remain below average for the start of the next week.
