Increasing Clouds Saturday with Rain/Snow/Ice on Sunday

Our next weather system arrives on Sunday bringing rain/snow and ice to the WCCB area.

Winter Storm Watches in effect Saturday night into Sunday for the Mountains, Foothills and portions of the northern Piedmont (Iredell, Alexander, Catawba, Caldwell, Burke, Ashe, Watauga, and Avery Counties.)

The ridge of high pressure that has brought us days of sunshine will hold tight for the first part of the weekend before breaking down to an area of low pressure. Expect increasing clouds through the day on Saturday with a cold and wet end to the weekend. A strong system will push into the Mountains Saturday night and spread into the WCCB area through Sunday. With the moisture from this system plus cold temperatures, some are likely to see a wintry mix.Β  The greatest area of concern will be north of I-40 as sleet/freezing rain looks to be the primary precipitation type.

Tonight:Β Mostly Clear. Low: 25Β°. Wind:E 5.

Saturday: Increasing clouds. High: 47Β°. Wind: S 5.

Saturday PM: Mtn. snow then a chance of rain/sleet across the area. Low: 35Β°. Wind: E/SE 5-10.

Sunday: Snow for the Mtns. Ice/snow/rain for the Foothills. Mainly rain for the Piedmont. High: 41Β°. Wind: E/SE/N 5-15.

Happy Friday! Have a wonderful weekend.
