There have been consistent hints of an arctic blast taking over roughly 1/3 of the U.S., including the WCCB Charlotte area early next week. If models are correct, this will be the coldest air we have seen in 3 years when a low temperature of 8° occurred in Charlotte in January 2018.
These potentially frigid temperatures all depend on the timing of the arctic front. This is still a week away, so a lot can change, but it is something to watch!
Even if temperatures do not get as cold as shown above, Climate Prediction Center shows a favorable outlook for below-average temperatures next week.
A question you may be wanting to ask – does this mean snow? While this pattern is favorable as it sets the cold air in place, we would need another front to bring moisture behind this arctic front. It is possible, but simply too soon to know.
