CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte Fire officials say their crews are battling a three-alarm fire in east Charlotte after a commercial building went up into flames around 6:20 p.m. on Friday.

Officials say the building is located off Independence Boulevard near Pierson Street across from a Walmart, and one person is being treated by medics.
The building itself is in disrepair and boarded up with graffiti, officials say.
