LOS ANGELES (AP) β Britain’s famed Red Nose Day charity event will make its U.S. debut with an NBC special benefiting anti-poverty groups.
NBC said Wednesday that money raised by the three-hour “Red Nose Day” broadcast will be used to help children and their families in need worldwide.
Among the dozen charities that are to receive donations are the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Children’s Health Fund and United Way.
Britain’s Red Nose Day was co-founded in 1985 by “Love Actually” filmmaker Richard Curtis.
Celebrities and others traditionally wear red clown noses to promote the event, a reflection of its lighthearted approach to charity. The U.K. show features stars, comedy and music.
NBC’s “Red Nose Day” special will air May 21.
