CMPD: Two Suspects Arrested, Charged With Murder In South Charlotte Homicide Case

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have charged two suspects with murder after a man was fatally shot in south Charlotte Wednesday night.

Officers responded around 10 p.m. to Oak Meadow Court, off of South Boulevard, after reports of an assault with a deadly weapon.

When CMPD arrived, they found a man, identified as 29-year-old Selvin Yovani Lara-Reyes, with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene by MEDIC.

Through an investigation, homicide detectives identified 18-year-old Mario Alexander Monroy as the suspect in the case. Police say Monroy was charged with murder, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and felony breaking and entering after an interview.

Police say after a continued investigation into the homicide detectives identified a second suspect Thursday. According to a news release, 19-year-old Andy Jonathan Garcia was identified and arrested by CMPD on charges of murder, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, and felony breaking and entering.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing.
