Man hit in killed by train in Rock Hill

ROCK HILL, S.C.– The Rock Hill Police Department says that a man was hit and killed by a train early Sunday morning.

Police responded to a call for a pedestrian hit by a train in the 1500 block of Curtis Street around 4 a.m. Sunday.  When they arrived they found a 48-year-old man who had been hit by a Norfolk Southern Train.

Police say the man appeared to have been sleeping on the tracks under a cover and died from his injuries.

The investigation found that the train made an emergency stop, but due to the size, weight and stopping ability the train was not able to stop before hitting the man.

Police say they found property taken earlier in the evening from a car break-in on Church Street in Rock Hill with the man.

Police do not know if the man was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the incident.

The York County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Stephen Adams of Rock Hill.
