UNC Charlotte Holds Day Of Remembrance On 2-Year Anniversary Of Campus Shooting

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — UNC Charlotte officials say on April 30th, 2021 all classes will be canceled as the university holds a day of remembrance to commemorate the two-year anniversary of the campus shooting that took the lives of two students, injured four classmates, and impacted all of Niner Nation.

UNCC will hold virtual and in-person activities on the anniversary, provided by the Center for Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), University Recreation (UREC), and the Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

Officials say the day will end with the University Virtual Remembrance Program at 5:15 p.m., and all in-person activities throughout the day will adhere to gathering limits and public health guidelines.

Officials say the events to honor the lives and bravery of Reed Parlier and Riley Howe, the strength of survivors, and the resilience of the UNCC community is as follows:

  • 8 a.m to 9 a.m. Restorative Yoga and Mindfulness (CAPS & UREC).
  • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Niner Community Remembrance Art Mural Activity, outside UREC/Popp Martin Student Union (CAPS).
  • 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. 4.9 Remembrance Virtual Walk/Jog/Run (UREC).
  • 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Message Boards, Kennedy Building.
  • 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Let’s Talk Virtual Session (CAPS).
  • 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Where We Are Two Years Later / Employee Virtual Discussion (EAP).
  • 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Lunchtime Healing Arts Virtual Session (CAPS).
  • 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Restorative Yoga and Mindfulness (with UREC).
  • 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Let’s Talk Virtual Session (CAPS).
  • 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Employee Virtual Discussion (EAP).
  • 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Restorative Yoga and Mindfulness (CAPS & UREC).
