Victim In Fatal Mount Holly House Fire Identified As 17-Year-Old

MOUNT HOLLY, N.C. — The Mount Holly Police Department said that a teenager died in a house fire early Wednesday morning.

Police and the Mount Holly Fire Department responded around 2 a.m. to Wood Street in Mount Holly after a call about a house fire. Upon arrival, officials found a home fully engulfed in flames.

According to a news release, there were three people inside the house at the time of the fire. Two of those people were able to escape the house without injury.

One person, identified 17-year-old Gabriel Issac Payne, was located inside the house dead, police said.

The house sustained major damage during the fire.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by Gaston County Emergency Management and Fire Services. MHPD and the Gaston County Police Department are assisting with the investigation.
