NEW YORK (AP) β The creators of a video recording the comments a woman hears as she walks around New York City say it’s a testament to the pervasiveness of street harassment women face.
The video was shot over 10 hours one day in neighborhoods all over Manhattan and was edited down to a 2-minute final product. It has set off a storm of outrage. It has had more than 10 million views online since it was released Tuesday by the Hollaback! organization.
The footage is of actress Shoshana Roberts, who was dressed in jeans and a T-shirt and walked silently along.
Roberts didn’t make eye contact with any of the men she passed or talk to any of them. That didn’t stop them from making comments like, “What’s up, Beautiful?”
