52-Year-Old Man Arrested In Matthews Armed Robbery Case From Last Summer

MATTHEWS, N.C. — The Matthews Police Department said after an extensive investigation into an armed bank robbery that happened in July 2020 a 52-year-old man has been arrested.

The investigation was sparked after the robbery happened at the State Employee’s Credit Union (SECU) on July 10. The suspect entered the SECU, located on Matthews Township Parkway, and demanded money from the tellers at gunpoint.

After months of investigation, police said the identified the suspect in the case as Hardin Lee Wright of Matthews.

After Wright was identified in the case he was presented to the Mecklenburg County Magistrate’s Office where a warrant for his arrest was issued for the charge of Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, according to police.

Wright has been taken into custody and transported to the Mecklenburg County Jail to begin his due process in this case.
