STATESVILLE, N.C. — Officials with Third Creek Middle School announced Friday afternoon that all students will learn virtually for the week of May 17th through May 21st, due to a reported COVID cluster.
βThere are currently seven confirmed cases of COVID-19 at TCMS,β stated Director of Communications Dr. Boen Nutting. βFour of those cases are directly related to secondary spread at school, and all grades are impacted. Currently, over 130 (27%) students have been deemed a close contact, and are quarantined at home.”
North Carolina health officials say a cluster is determined at schools when a minimum of 5 individuals have contracted COVID.
School officials say students are expected to return to the classroom for in-person learning on Monday, May 24th.
Iredell County Health Department Director Jane Hinson stated, βI support the decision for virtual learning next week at Third Creek Middle in an attempt to stop continued spread of the virus within the school. Closure will also give the district time to thoroughly clean and sanitize the school.β
