Deputies: Morganton Man Arrested, Charged For Shooting Neighbor

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — A 61-year-old Morganton man has been arrested after shooting his neighbor Thursday afternoon, according to Burke County deputies.

Deputies and MEDIC responded to Pea Ridge Road around 2:40 p.m. after a report that someone had been shot by their neighbor. Upon arrival, the shooter, identified as Kenneth Reed, was detained and the 12-gauge shotgun was secured by officials.

The victim was treated by first responders for a gunshot to their ankle and foot at the scene. According to a news release, the victim was transported to the local hospital for further treatment.

Reed was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, according to deputies.

Burke County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation (CID) is continuing to investigate the scene and interview witnesses.
