BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — A 37-year-old Morganton man was arrested and charged after an investigation into an alleged statutory rape of a child Friday, deputies said.
The Burke County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation on May 27 after a reported possible statutory rape of a child under the age of 13.
After interviews were conducted the following day, Jason Isaiah McPeters was taken into custody and charged with felony first degree statutory rape, according to the sheriff’s office.
McPeters was given a $150,000 secured bond and held at the Burke County Jail. His first court appearance was scheduled for June 1.
